The Beauty of Flower Essences
Many ancient civilisations sensed that the morning dew on plants and trees held beneficial properties for their well-being. They would gather this dew and use it as medicine, believing that every plant holds a particular energy or vibration that they could integrate into their system. Flower remedies are now seen to be a safe and non invasive packet of information that helps peel away wounds, fears and imprints enabling us to return to an upgraded version of ourselves, back to the core of who we are - our original blueprint.
The essences as we know them now were first produced in the 1930's by Dr Edward Bach creator of ‘Bach Flower Remedies’ who harvested morning dew droplets from plants in order to relieve various emotional states. He prepared 38 remedies, mostly from English wildflowers and trees. He observed that each plant seemed to have its own particular emotionally and spiritually balancing properties.
Plant remedies are created from living flowers, plants or trees and all hold different qualities according to the season they arrive, their colour, fragrance and shape of the original plant. With the help of the sun its essence or vital qualities can be imprinted into pure water like a note on the piano or a vibration. We can take drops of these essences, so that the plants and flowers share their harmonising abilities with us.
The Doctrine of Signatures is a theory that states that the perfect remedy can be found by reading the book of nature, operating on the principle that ‘like treats like’.
Some examples of the Doctrine of Signatures:
Aspen leaves quiver and shake even when there is no wind, so it can be given for nervous and fearful conditions.
Snowdrops arrive into a hostile and cold winter season, so it can be given to those who are bringing new ideas and projects into the an unforgiving environment.
Clematis holds onto their seeds for the whole of winter, hanging onto multiple spindly stems, growing high in the hedgerows, this can be given to dreamy people who find it hard to bring projects to fruition.
Water Violet grows alone in ponds, it is given to people who feel the need for privacy, but the privacy has grown into a state of loneliness.
Bramble flowers the thorns protect young trees and plants against nibbling deer and hares. As an essence bramble helps you when having arrived at a new point in your life. Protecting you and encouraging to slowly continue on your path.
Flower essences are dilute herbal infusions prepared from pristine garden blossoms that are gathered in the early morning and infused by the warmth and light of the sun. This process creates an imprint of the unique energy pattern of the flowers into the water, which then embodies the healing archetype of that particular plant.
Tuning into or the principle of ‘attunement’ asks us to communicate with a plant, tree or flower in a conscious way. We can use the attunement process to connect with plants more deeply. And maybe the flowers, trees and plants are able to help us with a personal message. Each time we tune into the plant we aim to notice how it effects us and helps us identify a new feeling state. This is our unique connection and direct telephone line to the plant.
As we commune with the essence of a specific flower, herb or tree, we remind ourselves of our uniqueness, we nurture a sense of connection and harmony with our own inner internal landscape. Re- engage with our own essence and appreciate the beauty of our inner system. This can have a profound impact on our physical and mental health. As we remind ourselves of the geometry, colour and fragrance of the flower, it helps us to re- engage with our own true essence, and interference can drop away, clearing and repairing our feelings and returning us to a state of balance, peace and wholeness.
